SINT Technology offers an integrated service for the operators of installations subject to the EU Emisssions Trading Scheme who are responsible for planning and monitoring greenhouse gas emissions.

It is therefore necessary to have established procedures for assessing and monitoring emissions and for emissions reporting. CO2 allowances are tradable and therefore form an integral part of an installation’s economical as well as technological credit-debit balance (see “Measurement and Test Laboratory – Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions”).

SINT Technology is completing a campaign conducted in 24 thermoelectric power plants throughout Italy involving evaluation of the uncertainties of measurement of thermal cycle fuel supply and steam flow rates.

Evaluation of the uncertainty related to measurement of these flow rates enables the power generation process to be certified in compliance with Executive Orders DL 215/04 and C (2004) 130 making it possible to establish to a high degree of reliability the efficiency of individual plants also in terms of environmental impact (see “Measurement and Test Laboratory – Evaluation of the uncertainty of measurements”).

SINT Technology has been accredited an Energy Saving Company (ESCO) by the Electricity and Gas Authority. In such a capacity it is entitled to apply for verification and certification of energy savings achieved through projects implemented in end consumers’ plants, as required for subsequent issue of energy efficiency certificates (see “Measurement and Test Laboratory – ESCO”).

The new version of the system is an update of the previous model, introduced at the beginning of 2005.

A number of components are now made of rigid plastic (ertacetal), making the system even lighter and bringing the total weight down to less than 5 kg.

SINT Technology is to be at AIAS’s 34th National Conference where it will be giving a presentation on “Evolution of high-speed drilling technology for evaluating residual stresses by the hole-drilling strain gage method” and have exhibition space to personally illustrate its products and services to the public.

The Italian Stress Analysis Association’s mission is to promote the advancement of knowledge regarding methodologies for analysing stresses in mechanical components, structures and systems, methodologies supporting mechanical design engineering and the study of the mechanical behaviour of materials. AIAS’s annual National Conference is therefore an important opportunity for those who study and work in those fields in universities, research organisations and industry to share their experiences.

This year the Conference will be held in the Faculty of Industrial Engineering at Milan’s “Politecnico” University (Bovisa Campus)

The course is organized by Assindustria Firenze and will be held by Emilio Valentini. The purpose of the course is to provide the information necessary for correct performance of measurement processes and proper use of measurement systems.

The course is organized by AIM (Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia) to address the issue of residual stress and to discuss some practical cases, giving a wide view of applications of the strain gage technique for measuring residual stresses.
Emilio Valentini will deliver the presentation entitled “Strain gage techniques and standards”.
