The drills, made of tungsten carbide (CT) and treated tungsten carbide (CTT), have an inverted cone profile and a standard drilling diameter of 1.6 mm. They can be used to drill a wide variety of materials (steel, cast iron and some types of aluminium) as hard as 300 – 400 HV.
Diamond drills are required for higher hardnesses (up to 800 HV).
SINT Technology uses these drills in the RESTAN system for evaluating the residual stresses that are locked in materials by the strain gage method.
