Thermal Plant Evaluator

Software for the long-term real-time evaluation of the performance parameters for a whole plant or single machine.



Thermal Plant Evaluator is a cost effective long term performance monitoring software for machines.

The cost effectiveness and the plant efficiency are the major parameters on which the plant managers focus their attention to evaluate the plant performance indexes, through long data elaboration.    

Thermal Plant Evaluator platform transfers SINT Technology’s experience in field performance testing into a Windows OS software suite that allows for the continuous monitoring of a power plant or of a single unit.
The results are immediately at disposal in a real time format to the control system operator and plant management to set priorities in plant maintenance actions, optimizing efficiency efforts and load Energy optimizations.

Atex system for real-time acquisition, visualization and analysis of reciprocating compressors behaviour.



Reciprocating compressors are often some of the most critical systems at a production facility. Due to many factors, adequacy of maintenance practices and operational factors, industrial facilities can expect widely varying lifecycle costs and reliability from their own installations. RCX is actually the only system for reciprocating compressors analysis ATEX approved, composed by a portable acquisition hardware based on NI cRIO architecture and a Windows OS software for real-time visualization, processing and recording control. The NI cRIO platform allows the system to be used both as a stand-alone recording system or a user driven system through the dedicated software. Acquisition hardware features

A data acquisition and analysis system to analyze gas turbines combustion chamber pressure fluctuations.


System presentation

SESTA FFT is a data acquisition and analysis system for gas turbines combustion chamber pressure fluctuations. The gas turbine combustion quality mainly depends on:

  • Combustion chamber pressure
  • Temperature
  • Air flow speed inside the combustor
  • Stoichiometry ratio
  • Combustible type

Small variations in the parameters mentioned above could bring to combustion instability and therefore to pressure fluctuations inside the combustion chamber.
The acquisition and analysis of these fluctuations is important in order to measure the quality of the combustion and prevent breaks due to excited resonance frequencies.
The system is composed by a NI cRIO chassis with two NI 9234 accelerometers acquisition module and, a NI 9481 digital output module and a software running on PC for data visualization and acquisition control.
Thanks to the cRIO platform the system can also record data in stand-alone manner.
The software provides also useful tools for recorded raw and elaborated data navigation. Main feature:

  • Dedicated user interface for real-time monitoring, recording control and recorded data navigation
  • Stand-alone recording mode

Automated system for the calibration procedures of speed and acceleration sensors.



The calibration of vibration sensors (accelerometers and velocimeters) could be a time consuming procedure and its accuracy affects the vibration measures carried out with the sensor itself.

V-CAL is an automatic probes calibration system that allows to perform human unsupervised and high precision calibration plan in few seconds.

The system is composed by a shaker with the reference probe and the probe to calibrate installed on, a NI cDAQ chassis with a NI 9234 accelerometers acquisition module and NI 9263 analog output module, an amplifier to drive the shaker and a PC running the software.

Through the dedicated interface the user can define a custom calibration plan composed by steps. Each step is defined by excitation frequency and amplitude. Once the calibration starts the system carries out the calibration plan step by step, driving the shaker through the analog output module and elaborating the accelerometers signals. In order to increase the calibration accuracy the system perform a closed loop control on the reference probe measured amplitude.

Acquisition and elaboration system for the acoustic emissions for long-term monitoring of suction and discharge cylinder valves on reciprocating compressors.


VMS is an acoustic emissions data acquisition and recording system used for long term monitoring wear status of suction and discharge cylinder valves on reciprocating compressors. Its architecture allows to monitor machines operating in hazardous area. VMS is composed by:

  • Acoustic emissions sensors able to sense signals connected with the gas flow through the compressor suction and discharge valves
  • Key phasor sensor for rotational speed measurement
  • ATEX approved junction box containing signal conditioners installed nearby the machine
  • Acquisition, recording and storage cabinet installed in the safe control room which includes a PC running the software and NI SCXI platform for signal acquisition

The software has been developed to real-time monitor the valves acoustic emissions and record data in a dedicated database. The historical data are available from the VMS software itself or from remote third party software for further analysis.

Software features:

  • Real-time acoustic signals monitoring (time and angle domain)
  • Historical data visualization
  • Average and variance of the acquired signals inside a machine full revolution and calculated on the user defined number of revolutions
  • Calculation of the maximum value and areas subtended by the average value curve, for four angle intervals set by the user

Sint db manager

Database connection utility for LabVIEW 32 and 64 bit




SINT Technology DB Manager is a VI toolkit for LabVIEW development environment (both 32 and 64 bit) that provides an easy-to-use interface between LabVIEW and other multiple database engines (Oracle, MySQL and MS SQL server).

This toolkit doesn’t require an ODBC configuration, resulting in an easier client machine configuration and LabVIEW developed application distribution.

Due to the scalable architecture, further database engines support may be requested contacting SINT Technology.


Probe Positioner

Two axis probe positioning system with customizable and automated movement plan.


During prototyping phase of machines such as centrifugal compressors, the spatial resolution of temperature, pressure and gas flow angle measurements is crucial.

In order to have a reliable characterization of the model under test the amount of probes required could increase considerably, increasing also the hardware needed for cabling, the number of data acquisition channels and work force for the installation.

Probe Positioner is thought to increase the spatial resolution of the measurements without increase the number of sensors to use, through a two axes probes positioner.

The hardware is provided with an easy to use PC software that allows to move the probes in the desired location simply setting the two axes target, or defining a movement plan the software executes automatically.
The software allows the usage of more Probe Positioner hardware at the same time. Main features:

  • Two axis probes movement
  • 100mm translation and 180° rotation
  • Hardware provided with ethernet connectivity for an easy installation and configuration
  • Dedicated user interface for manually set the axes target or define a movement plan to be executed automatically
  • Hardware and software customized based on user requirements


Data Picker e WideView

Acquisition system with special high temperature sensors used to analyze data during security fire tests on the Rome Subway line C.


Presentation Slides

The software and hardware platform was used as data acquisition and monitoring system in order to validate the Rome subway C line design in terms of fire safety.
The experiment was conducted on a 110 meters long 1:1 subway scale model, with three differents fire triggers type:

  • Natural trigger simulating an abnormal operating condition
  • Forced trigger increasing the subway car underbody temperature
  • Malicious trigger firing up a fuel tank inside the subway car

SINT Technology provided the acquisition hardware based on National Instruments Field Point platform, special sensors designed for working at high temperature and the software platform for collecting data from Field Point hardware and third party acquisition systems.

Measurement types:

  • Tunnel temperature
  • Combustion gas concentration and speed
  • Light intensity inside the emergency exit

Because of the unrepeatability of the experiment the solution was designed for the highest availability possible in terms of both hardware and software design.

Software platform:

  • Field Point embedded software for signals acquisition and data recording on device memory
  • Windows PC software for data retrieving from Field Point and third party devices (PLC and Java developed softwares)
